Perhaps as many as up to 10% of both men and women are born with or develop Inverted Nipples. Sometimes this occurs in just one or in both nipples and there are typically three levels of severity. The first of which is what is generally referred to as “shy nipples,” and the last, most severe type, would be permanently Inverted Nipples which may even, in Women, make breastfeeding difficult to impossible and hinder proper hygiene care.

While not generally a serious medical condition (though there are rare exceptions which should be ruled out by your Physician) having Inverted Nipples, especially in women, can be a cause of sexual self-consciousness.
